Volunteers are the heart of Habitat for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA). Thousands of volunteers lend a hand to build and rehabilitate homes with us each year. Habitat LA brings together individual and group volunteers to ensure that everyone can live in simple, decent and affordable housing. We invite you to help on our construction sites, in our ReStores, during our special events or behind the scenes in our offices!

Background Screening Requirement

In order to be a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles, an organization affiliated with the National Council of Nonprofits or one of their State Associations, each candidate is required to have a criminal background check completed prior to begining their service.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles, as a nonprofit organization, typically incurs the cost of all background checks conducted on our volunteers.

If you would like to help us dedicate more of our limited funds to supporting our mission, please consider paying for your volunteer background check via your personal credit card (speak with your Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles administrator if you have any questions).

By purchasing your volunteer background check yourself, you will help us provide additional services to those in need.
