About IRIS

The mission of Interfaith Refugee and Immigration Service (IRIS) is to provide a gracious welcome as well as tangible tools and connections to help new arrivals achieve self-sufficiency in the United States. IRIS has several programs including: refugee resettlement, immigration legal services, refugee employment program, cultural orientation, food pantry program and an ESL/Civics program. IRIS has been a program of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles and operated in conjunction with Church World Service, Episcopal Migration Ministries, and Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services.

Background Screening Requirement

In order to be a volunteer or employee with IRIS, an organization affiliated with the National Council of Nonprofits or one of their State Associations, each candidate is required to have a criminal background check completed prior to begining their service.

IRIS, as a nonprofit organization, typically incurs the cost of all background checks conducted on our volunteers.

If you would like to help us dedicate more of our limited funds to supporting our mission, please consider paying for your volunteer background check via your personal credit card (speak with your your IRIS administrator if you have any questions).
